Altitude has never been as alluring or captivating. As the last bastion of freedom, the mountains provide an escape from the fast-paced routines of everyday life. Nature reveals its full strength here, inviting humility and authenticity, making them ideal places for reunions with family or friends. Some cherish childhood memories in their beloved resorts, creating a deep-rooted connection. Everyone comes seeking unforgettable moments, experiences unique to the high-altitude setting.
The mountains are a muse, inspiring athletes and artists alike, as demonstrated by the photographers we followed on the journey to summits over 4,000 meters in this issue. They capture moments suspended in time, of rare intensity. More than just a vacation destination, the mountains offer a diverse range of experiences. Skiing and snow-based activities remain essential, but other challenges and ways to enjoy the high-altitude exist as well. Each at their own pace, individuals draw from the variety of activities on offer based on their aspirations.
Like the high-altitude guides we encountered in this issue, adaptability is the hallmark of mountain dwellers. To the climate, the expectations of visitors, and current trends. From this positive synergy emerge new projects, fresh inspirations, and ways to reinvent a constantly evolving ecosystem. Everyone is a part of the change. Interactions between residents, vacationers, and professionals are unfolding new, unexplored paths, gradually shaping a new version of the mountains—alive, true to its roots, and looking to the future.

A SKI OUTFIT FOR MANNEKEN-PIS

On September 26, the commune of Val de Bagnes and Verbier Tourisme gifted a ski outfit to the iconic Manneken-Pis statue in Brussels. In the presence of local authorities, the ceremony began with a procession from the Grand-Place, followed by the unveiling by the official dresser, continuing a centuries-old tradition. This unique outfit – consisting of clothing, skis, poles, and shoes – was crafted by artisans and merchants from the resort. After being displayed for a day, it is now preserved at the MannekenPis GardeRobe. Christophe Maret, president of Val de Bagnes, praised the role of Belgians in the development of the resort, highlighting this act as a tribute to their contribution. This event falls under Brussels Calling, aimed at strengthening ties between Verbier and Belgium.

APRIL. BUT MAKE IT VERBIER: END THE SEASON IN STYLE!

Whether in the resort or on the ski slopes, April promises delightful surprises in Verbier! A new program of activities and events awaits visitors looking to enjoy a lively end to the season! In addition to the usual highlights like the Verbier Art Summit and the Ultime Session, the resort will host its first Snow Pride on the slopes and in the village (April 5), along with numerous other events! Among them: the Back2Back Verbier with ski competitions and concerts, followed by après-ski in full swing (April 11-12), HOP, a complete family program over Easter weekend (April 18-20), and the Médran Street Festival (April 21-27) taking over the entire street, while bars will host their season closings during this time.

RAQUETTE RACLETTE IN THE FOREST

An experience that combines sport, nature, and gastronomy! Every Tuesday evening during the winter, the La Tzoumaz tourism office invites walkers to put on their snowshoes for a magical exploration of the Établons forest. During this one-hour hike, participants may have the chance to spot local wildlife while enjoying the snowy landscapes. To adhere to the saying “after effort, comfort,” a delicious raclette awaits them at the end of their adventure.
Reservations can be made through the La Tzoumaz tourism office.

VERBIER, SWITZERLAND’S BEST SKI RESORT 2024!

Verbier has been named “Switzerland’s Best Ski Resort 2024” at the World Ski Awards, marking its sixth win in seven years. Once again, the resort has mobilized its partners, residents, and enthusiasts to secure the highest number of votes among the most prestigious ski resorts. On the global podium, Verbier now stands alongside Kitzbühel and Val Thorens, with the latter taking home the ultimate title. Simon Wiget, director of Verbier Tourisme, expressed his gratitude to all who have supported the resort: “This distinction is the result of the commitment of many stakeholders.” For Laurent Vaucher, director of Téléverbier, it highlights “the hard work of the entire region.”
