Alasdair McKenzie, 19‐years‐old and on the way to conquering 14 peaks above 8,000 m
Alasdair, originally from Lorient, Brittany, was not initially destined for the Himalayas. However, his family’s love of the mountains led him to start climbing from a child. After spending 4 years in Chamonix before relocating to Tignes, this young Franco‐Scottish climber gradually immersed himself into the world of mountaineering, often with an experienced guide. While Alasdair relished the challenges of mountaineering and accomplished various demanding ascents in the Alps, he had other aspirations in mind, his studies and alpine skiing competitions. In 2021, he set himself a daring goal – to ski Mont Blanc before turning 17. “When I reached the Grands Mulets refuge, I had made up my mind: I was going to leave the FIS (international alpine ski circuit) and devote my time to the mountains.” Upon conquering the Mont Blanc summit, Alasdair’s ambitions grew to even greater heights. With the innocence of a 17‐year‐old and fifteen 4,000 m peaks in the Alps under his belt, he began dreaming of the Himalayas.
